Do you think Jews would accept this?

What most people today are totally clueless about is that most of the white people in the northern states before and during the US Civil War did not care the least bit about the issue of slavery in the southern states. They actually resented Abe Lincoln's decision to fight the war itself instead of just letting the southern states secede. In those days, people considered themselves citizens of their respective home states much more than citizens of the United States. Their political concerns were entirely local back then, not national or international.
