What photography book to get?

I have just started a photography cl and our first ignment is to pick a book on photography.We may choose any book we like. I a newbie and I do not know a lot about my SLR camera. I need instruction on shutter speed, focal length, ISO, composition you know what I mean the basic stuff. Any books you would recommend?
