Is it common place for an obgyn to tell a married woman to use condoms? I was kinda floored at my last appt?

when my obgyn asked about birth control.....I said my husband had had a vasectomy. She said those don't prevent stds (really, come on, I'm 30) and suggested we use condoms? I realize swinging/cheating happens but really?
