The Generals who were in charge sent the young men into battle only to be slaughtered as cannon fodder, the young men who went to war were never going to be the same they witnessed horrors that they did not deserve to die on foreign soil to leave all their families to mourn their loss, never to see them again or even have the chance to visit the grave . The cream of the men had gone the population was un balanced young women widowed fiancees never to love again with broken hearts , children never to be held up high in their fathers arms or play football with . The discovery of penicillin was far away and many lives could have been saved the men came home with limbs missing and back to harsh reality because there was no benefit system they suffered and their families in turn .The discovery of antiseptic helped but when the many injuries were caused by shrapnel bullets the wound almost every time became infected and many men bleed to death on the battle field although they had x-ray machines to find the fragments it was hit and miss the more badly injured with head and spine injuries very often died because surgery was not able to help.

Maurice Utrillo Painting?

I have a Maurice Utrillo painting called Paris Street. It was painted in 1914. I did some research and found out he's a pretty big deal. The painting is also one of his more popular. I want to know if it's real or a print. It belonged to my grandparents. I found only a couple sites on the web that talk about it. They say it's at The Art Institute of Chicago as part of The Helen Bartlett Collection. I went to their website and they list all the painting from Utrillo and all the painting that are part of The Helen Bartlett Collection. Paris Street isn't listed. Obviously I'm a little confused. Me and my ex have been best friends since this time 3 years ago, when we met back in 9th grade. Last year (10-20-07) i started dating her and we had an amazing relationship. We fell in love fast and hard, and we went everywhere and did everything together. Well i started getting kind of clingy and on top of that, i'm bipolar. I love her to death and i would never hurt her on purpose, but i started getting jealous of other guys, and i didnt trust her fully. On the 10th she dumped me and removed me from her life, all contact completely. The reasons are because i keep letting her down and i haven't been giving her time to be herself, i'm clingy, and i don't trust her, and it's just negativity on her in my opinion. Now she says she'll never forget me, but i don't know if she loves me or will ever talk to me again. Like an idiot, i immediately reacted and called her phone a bunch of times, leaving pathetic messages begging to talk to her, i did this up until that sunday, and then i didnt call her all day. I broke down again at night and called her. The next morning( the 143h) I called her mom to make sure she wasnt home, and i dropped off a dozen flowers, some candy, and a nice little card saying i miss her and i love her and how sorry i am. When i went there i noticed the promise ring i got her was sitting there, and it hurt, because she always wears it =/. I stopped calling her, but only 2 days later, the 15th, i made an idiot move. I got a ride to her house and went to her, followed her around, and it ended with her in her bathroom crying and telling me to leave, and me outside the door yelling i love her and asking if she even cares and saying stupid **** like oh if it was jimmy you'd care.(This is her friend she's been hanging with, she's known him for like 5 years so they hang out alot now)I regretted that so much and called and apologized, no-one answered. I found a box of old notes she gave me saying how much she loves me and if she can't have me she wants nothing and she's there forever, etc. They made me break down in tears so i wanted her to see them and see how things were, so i put them, some candy, her favorite soda, and wrote an 8 page letter to her, stuck it all in a box, dropped it off at her doorstep, knocked, and left. Now i hadn't contacted her again, or tried, until Monday, the 20th, and i only did so because that would have been our 1 year anniversary, so i just wanted to say hi and check up, she didnt answer and i ended up calling 6 times and leaving just as many messages. Later that night i called again and just told her i love her and i miss her and im always there. I sent her some messages on myspace telling her to come to a concert with me, and another with a huge collage of our old photos, some very recent, some from a few years ago, just to commemorate our would-have-been anniversary. She didn't open the messages, it tells you, they just said sent, so i deleted them. I was hoping she opened the package, but found out earlier she didn't. My friend danny asked her if she got anything from me and she said yeah and she opened it and got the candy and stuff, but didnt read the notes, which sucks. Her friend jess who takes her to school every day told me to stop obsessing and give her space, and that she'll never forget me and told me she doesn't like anyone else and knows she won't for a VERY long time, which i agree with, because she never really liked anyone from her school except me. She also told me that when i went there i scared her, which really upsets me because i didn't mean to. I know that she is happy right now and is just being herself. I really honestly can say that i am MADLY in love with this girl. I can't take my mind off her, like people say to, i just can't. I've tried everything, games, sleepovers, going out with people, etc, none of it works. She's always there, and she's one of the most influential people in my entire life. I want her to be happy and it really really hurts that i let her down. I want to at least be her friend again, and from there we can move slowly back into a relationship, but for now i just want her to talk to me again so we can be friends again. I'm very alone and i live in a different city than her since i moved, so i don't really have friends up here. I don't have anyone i can tell things to, and i'm just lost without her. My husband was diagnosed with prostste cancer in June. They cut it out and started him on brachy therapy 11 weeks ago. He says he wont stop working and they have suggested chemo but he does not want to go that route . are there any other treatment alternatives.if the brachy therapy does not work ? It is about reversal of roles, except that today the father is in the son's mind, I think. The most interesting aspects, technically, of this poem are the variations of off or close rhymes ("eye"/"exactly"; "sock"/"pluck"; "falling"/stumbling") which mimic the awkwardness of the movement the poems reenacts as well as the effective enjambements--"pluck / of reins"; "eye / narrowed"; "follow / in his broad shadow" (also an off internal rhyme) that dramatise the persistence of the son and, by implication at the end, of the father--the way in which they are edgily, closely, uncomfortably bound together--awkward and yet somehow loving, the love demonstrated by the similar sounds of the some of the language--"follow""shadow: again but also "dipping" and "rising" and "sod" and "sock." So I walked out to my car to search for the 100 dollar bill, but as I opened my car door he tasered me again in the stomach again with his stunt gun (not mention I am also pregnant). Instantly my reaction was to grab the pepper from my car and gas his *** with it. The entire time while I was trying to good shot at his face, he was continuously stunning me with this stunt gun in my stomach. Then his drug addict girl friend comes towards me to help him fight me. I seen her running towards me with a rock from the corner of my eye, so I took my attention off him, grab her by hair, punched her in the face and as she hit the floor I maced her too. I tried to get away from them by getting back into my car, but he proceeded after me, this time trying to brake my car window with a chair and still stunning me again. I just got into my car because I just wanted to get the hell away from there. Two days later my girlfriend calls and says that some one (detective) calls her saying that the young lady had died from inhalation. I don't know if this is true or not, but they tried to jump me after stealing $100 from me. If this young lady did die do you think that I should be convicted. All of this was out of self defense. They thought that they were gonna rob and beat my ***, but they had another thing coming for them. Instead they were layed out on the ground burning but they still have my money. The only money I had to my name. What should I do. And don't you think that I was wrong. But if she did die I give my condolence to her family. I live in the US, I won't tell you what city because I want people to be honest with thy re answers, my city is considered by others to have perfect weather, I have been here all my life and don't understand why they consider it one of the best climates in US, it's 59 right now yesterday it was 49, and don't get me wrong 59 and 49 is great compared to Minnesota or new york, but when I googled the weather in other US cities, I had a hard time finding a colder city than this one, unless of course I checked obvious colder cities like Minnesota, new york, chicago, etc, I think It's pathetic, and don't think that this city deserves to have a reputation on perfect weather, 49 is not my idea of paradise. Strange times...very 'Romanesque'. We have a senate composed of the 'rich' or pimps for the rich. We don't have gladiators duking it out in an arena, but we sure do have a lot of other sports going...bread and circuses for the unemployed. I'm not going to put too fine a point on the above, but as the Roman Republic began to run down after the first 300 years and totally went to hell for most Roman citizens after 500 years and went away, at least in the west after 1,000 years I do see some similar parallels. Of course things moved a lot slower back in the day, maybe it took a little longer way back then then to get an entire civilization into a jam. We could turn this around, but we probably won't...we'll manage to get an overwhelming number of right wing reactionaries elected, who in turn will turn on each other until in the end we'll get an 'Caesar' or a Mussolini and down the road the 'empire' will break up. While researching various issues on the internet, I have discovered that the information is always conflicting and historical events that have occurred during my lifetime are reported quite differently from what I remember. Important events are often excluded if they shed an unpleasant light on one side or the other. I also find that, in place of reporting, there are a few names and dates and too many descriptive adjectives. There is abundant use of words like EVIL and FASCIST. and a marked lack of real information. The reader often chooses the articles that fit within their psycological schemata and will never get a full picture. Then, S/he espouses the views mistakenly developed from this practice. How can we stay clear enough to really see the truth?

Just curious if this is a common phenomenon a couple people I met did. Do any of you guys do it. I have found brown jasper to be helpful in grounding, smokey quartz to be helpful in collecting (instead of letting it into my aura) prayer energy sent at me, and rose quartz to be helpful in attracting more friends or people to be more friendly and Clear Quartz useful in preventing junk from other peoples auras in getting on me. FAFSA help?

i applied for my FAFSA and my EFC is 24k!!! i have no clue where i can come up with that kinda money. i know its just an estimate but still. anyways im 21 and married and its just me and my hubby and last year we made 79k and the year before it was 69k the school i want to go to helped me fill out the FAFSA and i was looking it over today and it said i had 2 exemptions for 2006 but only 1 for 2007 i changed it to 2 today because it was the 2 of us not just me. after bills we told them we have roughly 150-200 dollars left over and when they showed me the numbers for the student loan it says i'd be paying about $541 a month!! how is that even remotely possible to do with an extra 200 bucks a month? does anyone know how much of a difference it will make since i corrected it to 2 excemptions? or good places for student loans that you dont have to start paying back until 6 months after you graduate like Stafford's loans?

Boot camp+ showers + heteruals+ s = ?

Hello theres this girl i like in my English cl and I never really talked to her until one day when we was both on the bus. When did you start buying stuff for the baby?

We started buying at around 16 weeks just some gender neutral things. We now have quite a few boy things and our crib, pack n play and travel system. 2004 Lincoln Ls catalytic converter replacement?

I have a 2004 Licoln Ls 3.0 6cyl. My check engine light came on and reads for a new catalytic converter. I have lost power in the car and it smells like backed up exhaust. How much will parts and labor run if I have to replace both of them. This car has had several repairs in the last year. I need to understand why my skin has been discolored from bandage adhesive?

The brand name is Curad. I can't understand it. I started putting on Eucerin, hoping it would clear up but it is still there. It looks like a scar in the shape and size of the adhesive from my bandage. The only thing I can think of is that I had to keep a bandage over the same spot for about 2-3 weeks, so I would change it every day. Now I have a permanent mark!

Question about food additives and fecal discomfort?

Lets just start off by saying I am used to the most spicy of foods. Chili, Curries, anything. Now I recently consumed a packet of Hot Ramen noodles, of which the only spicy ingredients were chili powder and garlic. It also contained MSG and some red food colorings unknown to me. I ate it, and it wasn't really spicy. Soon afterwords, I got severe stomach discomfort and had to p gas all the time, I felt nauseous, and soon I was having the urge to p stool. I went to the restroom, I strained and strained, but nothing would come out except more gas a burning (as in, it burned inside my rectum) hot slimy substance, slightly brownish in color but transparent. My guts felt like they were on fire. I eventually managed to p some mushy stool, which I collected in a tupperware. It hurt very badly coming out, like gl cutting my belly! It had a strange texture, it was smooth but it seemed to have bubbles all through it. So I decided an experiment -keep reading, I'm absolutely not kidding around here, I'm in pain and confused- to set the stool on fire. Just as I suspected, the stool burst into flame as I was setting on fire lamp oil soaked paper! It popped and crackled and spread a synthetic like odor. I guess the "bubbles" were small gas pockets inside the stool. I now constantly have to p gas and(both the "bubbly mushy" and "hot slime" stools, I have considerable pain in my stomach and my rectal area burns, I'm almost calling an ambulance because the pain and spasmic straining is making me go insane. What could have done this? Why do my stool burn like fuel, why does it hurt? Could it be the food additive I can't believe garlic and chili power can do this painfulness to the abdomen! What is happening to me, should I get help, what can I do to relieve pain and the constant gas and painful stools?

College student diet/weight loss?

As much elliptical work as you can do. Since you are a woman (I presume), you probably don't want to and will not build much muscle. The main concern for men is that they don't do cardio because they don't want to lose hard-earned muscle. Cardio is still the single best EXERCISE for weight loss (diet is the single best thing for weight loss but cardio is the best exercise). Consistency is the single most important thing. As a college student, I know how hard this can be. You don't want to be a "weekend warrior" or do 6 days of exercise one week and then 2 days the next. Schedule at least 2-3 intense workouts a week and if you have time, just toss in a light work out here and there. As for core strength, don't do crunches or sit ups. Plank, hold your legs 6 inches from the ground while lying on your back, and Russian twists are great. Motionless core work outs are the best for stability and strength.

I have Gall Bladder Stones & need surgery to remove it but the dr. won't do surgery due to my severe Scoliosis?

I was born with a birth defect called Spina Bifida (with a Myelomeningocele). Along with the Spina Bifida I was also born with SEVERE Scoliosis for which I've had metal rods placed on either side of my spine (but they don't keep me or my spine straight because one of them broke right after surgery). Anyways, I'm in TONS & TONS of pain because I have gall bladder stones. But I've been to 2 different hospitals & the surgeons won't do surgery because I can't lay down flat so therefore they don't see HOW they could even reach my gall bladder to take it out. And they don't want to hurt my body/kill me in the process of trying to get to my gall bladder to take it out... My sister is searching for any local internists/surgeons who have experience with people who have Spina Bifida & severe Scoliosis who know more of what they're doing & who would be able & willing to do surgery to take my gall bladder out so I can FINALLY be rid of this HORRIBLE pain! He also gave me a rug from somewhere (I forgot; I think it was Africa.) Well, he said thank you and I was such a good soul. He asked was I doing better; I said yes. I almost left but came back and asked him what he was going to do now. He told me a vacation, do stuff for his kids in aug, and consultation work in Minn. I told him that sound good & exciting. I know he stayed around b/c his car was there after I left the library and ped the church. It was lunch time and I think he had a lunch date. It's a mid-size crossover SUV. For the money, I would buy a Toyota product instead. The resale will be much higher as well as if you decide to drive the vehicle until it dies, you will get by far many more trouble free miles with a Toyota. I have 3 Toyotas. I drive a 1992 Toyota Paseo 5-speed that has 288,000 miles on it and it runs perfectly. The a/c broke years ago and I never fixed it so it only gets driven spring, fall and winter. It has a heater like a blast furnace. Go Toyota.

I went ahead and delegated most of day-to-day work to my istant hoping that my senior would release some of his tasks and responsibilties. i was shocked since he never did so. I feel in a vacuum, more of a "just be there and earn a salary guy" than adding value. I think I am recovering from empty nose syndrome. Is it normal to lose my sense of smell/taste?

Last thursday night I was barely able to sleep because I had really achy and dry sinuses. It almost felt like I had a sore throat up my nose the whole night. I could barely sleep. The next day I felt like crap because I had some flu symptoms and my nose was really runny. On sunday I began to feel better but I still had the sore throat feeling up my nose. On monday through today I've been getting a lot of yellow phlegm, but its really odd because I can breathe normally, and I still get a lot of really sticky yellow phlegm when I blow my nose. I also have noticed that I cannot taste or smell my food the way I normally do. Is this normal? I have not yet seen a doctor or anything. I have just been doing a lot of research. You can't believe how hard it was to find something that fit my description.

Where does the water go when defrosting frozen bread?

Today I made a sandwich with frozen bread, stored it in a container and put it in my bag. Around 5 hours later when I pulled my sandwich out and the bread was defrosted (it tasted delicious btw). I was wondering though, where did the water go? The bread and filling wasn't soggy nor was there any water or moisture in the container. My friend has about $5,000.00 in unpaid medical bills because she has no insurance and needed gall stones removed. What's the big deal with Illegal Immigration?

Now I know I am going to hit a nerve with this one, but does anyone else seem to understand the word "Illegal"? Last I checked it meant "Prohibited by law" (Against the Law). I have no problems with differnt people wanting to come to the USA to live, but do it the right way. My wife is from Japan and I paid the $3000+ in attorney fees and paperwork to get the visa and eventually the green card. It is so frustrating specifically in Arizona where this is a major issue when I see illegal immigrants from Mexico rioting agaist the legal system because THEY broke the law. If you don't like our rules then don't come. Why did they come in the first place? They seem devout to thier county, why not stay there? No, they come here illegally and then want to live off my tax dollars and if that was not enough want to change my language and hertiage for them! The United States of America is not the new Mexico!
